HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC — April 12, 2013 — When the RBC Heritage tees off at Hilton Head’s Harbour Town Golf Links on April 18th, it will mark the tournament’s 45th year in existence. It will also mark the 45th year of Hargray’s involvement as a sponsor and partner of the tournament.
“We are a local company and as such we think of this as our tournament, too,” said Andrew Rein, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Hargray. “We are uniquely positioned and qualified to do this absolutely essential part of the RBC Heritage, and we love doing our part to showcase Hilton Head to the world.”
In 1969, when the likes of Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus were walking the fairways in the inaugural Heritage Classic, Hargray was providing the tournament with a handful of telephone lines. This year, tournament staff, vendors and media partners will be supported by Hargray High Speed Internet capable of transmitting up to 20 million bits of data per second.
To provide the tournament with the range of services required, it takes a handful of dedicated Hargray employees approximately 1,200 hours of labor over the course of six weeks.
“If you consider the tournament infrastructure, from operations trailers to merchandise tents to the CBS command center, a small town, Hargray technicians have a little over a month to wire that entire town for voice and High Speed Internet,” said Gwynne Lastinger, Director of Operations for Hargray.
